Some stuff I found interesting looking back on the investigation

[Spoilers for the chapter 1 case]

Rewatching the investigation after knowing who the culprit is, it makes it fun seeing all the ways Eva tries to mislead Damon or get him to reach the wrong conclusions. I can't think of a time in danganronpa where the investigation partner was intentionally trying to lead the mc astray, and I just find Eva's actions all the more interesting because of that.

Some examples off the top of my head: -Eva trying to make Damon think the bruise on Wolfgang's neck was due to decomposition and the environment, rather than, you know, an attack -Eva gaslighting Damon into thinking the rolling pin probably wasn't important (this one actually worked on me) -Trying to get Damon to focus on getting alibis rather than actually investigating, knowing her plan gave her a solid alibi while Diana wouldn't have one -Wishing that Wolfgang kept the note he got "in a safe place" rather than keeping it on him (this one's funny to me because at the time you'd assume it's about the water damage but she probably wanted wolfgang to hide the note where nobody would find it at all) -The whole tangent about extension cables having a weird name??? (Maybe to waste time or make Damon stop thinking about the extension cable in relation to the murder but instead about their name, like "yeah they do have a weird name, they can't be related to the case!") -Calling out Damon for not noticing the flipped lock? (she was probably more upset he did notice last second and couldn't help but try to demoralize him)

She only really helps when it'll point to Diana being the killer, like mentioning hearing the footsteps. Skipping searching Wolfgang's room entirely may be because she knows Damon won't find anything in there and so she doesn't need to be there to put doubts in his mind.

A lot of these don't seem suspicious at the time and some of them I might be reaching, I personally thought Eva was trying to be helpful in her own weird way by bringing up every possibility, but knowing she's the culprit really made me rethink every line of hers during the investigation. She might've also teamed up with Damon specifically because he did the best in the mock trial. Getting rid of the Ultimate Lawyer and trying to play the Ultimate Debater sounds like a winning strategy.

I dunno, maybe she would've done just as bad of a job investigating even if she wasn't the culprit, but I think it's a super neat concept to investigate with the killer and have them trying to hinder your progress right under your nose, and I haven't seen it discussed much. Plus I'm obsessed with Eva and desperate for crumbs, so I could be overthinking. Just wanted to rant a bit about this and how good the writing in this game already is, even if there sadly won't be more Eva I still can't wait to see the future trials!
