What Happened to QuikTrip?

QuikTrip used to be the gold standard for convenience stores, both for employees and customers. But those days are long gone. Long-time employees are overlooked for promotions, while people with less than five years of experience—and questionable qualifications—are fast-tracked into management and supervisor roles.

Corporate also seems to have no problem ignoring its own rules. Managers aren’t supposed to fraternize with clerks, yet some have done so and been rewarded with promotions. Meanwhile, corporate families have been benefiting from hefty QuikTrip donations—who’s approving that?

It doesn’t stop there. Employees are now being penalized for the opinions or actions of their family members if they upset corporate. Imagine working for a company that not only devalues your loyalty but tries to control your family too.

Let’s not forget that QuikTrip hasn’t been on Fortune’s “100 Best Companies to Work For” list since 2017. This was a company that made the list 15 years straight. What happened? Who changed?

While QuikTrip coasts on its old reputation, competitors like Buc-ee’s, Wawa, Sheetz, and Casey’s are outpacing them in innovation, employee treatment, and customer service. QuikTrip is falling behind, and unless they make big changes, they’ll lose the trust of both employees and customers alike.
