Road trip from Seattle, WA to Stafford, VA
As the title says, I arrived in VA after a cross-country road trip from WA. I'm posting this here because, like me, some people out there bought a Rivian to adventure but are nervous about the trip. Except for one Electrify America charging station, I quickly made it across the country without charging issues. Trying out the country's infrastructure was excellent, and I was pleasantly surprised with my R1T's versatility and comfort.
As for the Electrify America station I mentioned. The station was a 350kW dispenser, which populated on my navigation. Since I have been on I-90 for hours daily, I failed to double-check with Plugshare to see the station's status. If I did, I would have realized that the station was new and yet to be energized. If you ask me, Rivian should have some checks to ensure that the station is capable of charging, not just that there are stalls available. I luckily had my mobile charger with me and was able to limp to a nearby campground and charge at 50 amps with the owner's permission. If it weren't for that, my trip would have been over right then.
Secondly, I found out the hard way that if one of the front seats is buckled, the air conditioning will not shut off, regardless if it is locked. I had something of value in my front seat belted in to prevent my inner child from flinging it across the cabin in an ambitious on-ramp merge.
Lastly, unlike my previous EV (model Y), the driver assist features are very limited. It really only works on major highways or interstates, and even then, a bright light like the sunset, misplaced bug splatter, or inconsistencies in the road lines will turn it off. On my last day of travel (the night I'm writing this), all my driving sensors disabled themselves, throwing three orange lights on my dash. Rivian service answered the call and walked me through a full vehicle reset, which fixed the issues. For those wondering, holding the leftmost button on the steering wheel along with the hazard lights will initiate a full vehicle reboot. The other method of the left and right outermost buttons only resets the display says the service tech on the phone.
If anyone has any questions or concerns, I would be happy to answer them. Thanks, everyone!
