Numbness in my knee after falling

A few weeks ago I fell at an outdoor rink and got a really nasty bruise on my knee. The bruise has healed but I can't really feel the area on my knee below my kneecap when I scratch it. Has this ever happened to anyone else? How concerned do you think I should be?
