Cats Galore!

Ok Seattle I must know: based on travel, how long you’ve lived here, etc. what’s your take on the cat population here? Asking because I’m a recent transplant (born in Oakland, moved here a month ago from Houston) and in all my travels, I have NEVER seen this many cats! I love it! Cats in windows, cats in bags, cats on leashes, cats on shoulders, they are simply everywhere, public and private, perhaps an almost equal ratio to dogs?

I remember seeing people with public birds and lizards in CA which that felt more normal and in texas, despite what the locals say, there are people with horses in the inner loop, it’s not just a stereotype. So are cats taking the equivalent role in Seattle as the animal of choice? Maybe it’s the cozy rain and apartments that’s driving their numbers? Also I should maybe mention that I’m currently in Capitol Hill with a cat, and we love nothing more than gazing out our window and looking at all the neighbor cats, pretty much every apartment seems to have one. This city is truly a paradise 🤍

Edit: I should clarify that by “public cats” I mean cats out in public with their owners, either on leashes, in bags, in strollers, etc. and not just cats running loose in the streets. That’s what seems so different and city-specific to me, to see them like that, so loved and socialized, it’s rad.
