Confession from a new fan
I'm a public high school teacher in Colorado. Last year my daughter and I came out to Seattle to see a Seahawks game and on a whim went to a Kraken Game. My daughter won a tshirt and we had so much fun that we became hooked on Hockey and specifically Kraken Hockey. We went to another game while we were out here on that trip and they won both games! A few weeks later, we went to the Kraken vs Avs game in Denver and the Kraken won that too!! Suffice it to say, we were convinced the Kraken are OUR team of choice. For Xmas last year, I bought her and me knock off jerseys (I sport our goalie #31 and she has Matty's #10). We thought we were the coolest wearing our Kraken gear on Christmas morning. We couldn't wait to come back to Seattle and cheer on our boys again!
We decided to make a trip out here to the PNW for NYE this year with my son as well and went to the game vs Utah a few days ago! They were nose bleed seats, cause I guess tickets during vacation times increase by quite a lot, but we still had fun, lost our voices shouting so much. The back to back goals in the 1st period were so fun, I had to sit down cause I couldn't breathe, I was shouting so much. We had a blast on Monday and that victory meant that we've seen the Kraken win everytime we've been in attendance. Now here comes the confession bit.
We thought it would be fun to rent a car and drive up to Vancouver to see a Canucks game. So we were not in attendance at the Deep for the game yesterday, but did watch it from our hotel room here in Vancouver. We blame ourselves for the loss, cause clearly we are the goodluck charm that could have ensured a Kraken victory. But even the loss last night was thrilling and exciting.
So we just got back from the Canucks vs Preds game. (If you can call that a game) The tickets were an outrageous price for crappy seats, we were surrounded by people who looked at their phones and Instagram accounts more than the rink below us, no one was cheering and the whole stadium felt dead. Roger's Arena is cramped and not planned out well, with 0 identity to it. And I haven't mentioned the abysmal play that the Canucks did tonight. We were bored to tears the entire time.
So I apologize. We should have spent our money on a franchise where the fans and players care about the game. We should never have traveled up North to this odd city that's kinda a Seattle wannabe but has no spirit. We are coming back tomorrow to Seattle for 1 more night before flying back home to CO on Sunday and I teach on Monday. Hoping to get discounted tickets before the game tomorrow night, but not holding my breath.
TLDR: I chose the wrong PNW city to spend a few days of our vacation and paid WAY too much money to see a garbage franchise play crappy hockey. I won't make the same mistake again.
Thank you.
