[Seiko] Prospex Alpinist GMT 110th anniversary wristwatch-making limited edition - [SPB409J1]
This happens to be my first expensive mechanical watch purchase. I was not considering Selko as such until I came across SPB121J1 with its beautiful green dial. And then exploring the Alpinist line, I stumbled upon this limited edition as well as 377J1 and 379J1. I think the size of the dial attracted me though I guess a 41mm would have looked better on my 6.75" wrist.
Nonetheless, I was in love with this white-silver dial of SPB409J1 and started hunting for where I could try it on. There were no stores, including exclusive Seiko stores, where I could find this piece to try. So I risked buying this without actually trying it on; asked a local multi-brand watch store to source this for me, and it managed to though not without a hustle apparently.
I am happy the way it looks and wears on the wrist. I got it at a deal of $1,075 though I think it is a few hundreds expensive on the pretext of a Limited Edition.
This is my first GMT so I don’t know if the behaviour of the GMT hand to not get locked on the closest possible time is normal. For instance, if I have to lock the GMT hand at 1630 hours, it wouldn’t; it had fixed slots where it can be locked so a 1630 would either get locked around 1600 hours or around 1700 hours.
But have to admit, it looks stunning to me. Even a 377J1 would have been super (and cheaper) but this dial with its bracelet had me stuck on it.
