Considering the Shure MV7+ for Home Office Use and Podcasts – Questions About Functionality and Performance
Hey everyone,
I’ve always wanted to own a Shure mic, and the MV7+ has caught my eye as a great addition to my home office setup. Currently, I’m using the JLab Epic Talk, which has been doing the job well enough for Zoom meetings and some light recording. That said, I’ve always wanted a Shure. So this purchase is more about fulfilling a want rather than a need. But I just want to make sure this isn’t going to be a downgrade for my application. My wife also plans to use it for podcasts related to her business and creating online videos in the near future.
I have a few questions before pulling the trigger on this:
1. How does the Shure MV7+ compare to the JLab Epic Talk? I’ve had a decent experience with the JLab so far but wonder if the Shure would deliver noticeably better quality, especially for podcasts and online content creation.
2. Can it be used without the Motiv software? My work computer has strict policies and doesn’t allow external software installations. How well would the MV7+ function for Zoom meetings in this case?
3. Does it pick up background noise? For example, if someone is playing music or clanking dishes in another room, how well does it isolate my voice from those distractions?
4. Will it need to be in frame? My current mic sits about 8-10 inches in front of me, just out of frame, with the gain turned all the way up. Would this setup work with the Shure MV7+, or would I need to adjust?
Thanks so much for your help!
