Not being woke to hire someone pregnant

Can you imagine hiring a domestic worker who is pregnant? No, because there are health checks to prevent this. In fact work permit holders and domestic workers can have their permit revoked and repatriated for being pregnant.

So why should a Singaporean worker be any different?

A woman who gets pregnant without a plan in mind will be a irresponsible worker. A responsible woman would either have savings to tide her through, married a man who can support her, or simply be hired before being pregnant.

Let's take this further. Would we want a pregnant teacher/tuition teachers taking a psle or o level class? Would you consider this even if her edd is after the exams? No, you won't. Because the reality is that we know pregnancy will be accompanied by maximum use of medical leave or gyne reviews and physical limitation. And if there is a complication, we are looking at more compassionate leave and hospitalisation leave.

Yes, pregnant women need alot of physical, emotional and financial support. Which is why they should chose their spouse carefully before getting pregnant in the first place. Expecting companies and colleagues to provide this support is ludicrous and self-entitled.
