I'm trying open mics again.
I bombed baddd at my first one, tried (off and on) for a few months, then bombed my last one last st. pattys day. That one was so bad I almost gave up, until last week when I tried again.
Getting back up there wasn't as bad as I feared. I'm enjoying the joke writing process a lot more this time. That's been an adjustment because I started out with improv comedy. I know I need to embrace the fact that almost nobody is a "natural," and that practice makes perfect.
I'm planning to hit at least one or two open mics weekly, then work up to hit as many as I can. I'm going to set a schedule for writing so I don't over do it or slack off. I'm brushing up on classic specials as well as up-n-cummers. I listen to comedy podcasts almost exclusively. I've been doing some light research on "standup 101," type shit, but there are just too many different perspectives to narrow it down much.
Sooo, I'm here seeking advice, experience, tips, etc. Thanks!
