Never too late?

I have a friend with a terminal illness. The doctors gave him 6 months to live. He asked me if it was too late to start stand up comedy. Everyone keeps telling him it's never too late. I'm conflicted. He wants to give it a shot but I feel like he should spend his last days with family and friends, not waisting hours at an open mic or waiting for a spot on Kill Tony.
