How much time passes in the Star Wars movies, part 2: The Empire Strikes Back (71 days and 7 hours) and a recalculation of A New Hope (23 days and 39 minutes)
We'll go over A New Hope recalculated first.
This recalculation accounts for transit times through hyperspace according to the Fantasy Flight Games Star Wars TTRPG. According to it, a class 1 hyperdrive takes 96 hours to travel from the Outer Rim to the Core Worlds or vice versa. The Millennium Falcon has a class 0.5 hyperdrive, so that's 48 hours a pop, and it travels between the Outer Rim and Core Worlds twice (Tatooine to Alderaan and Alderaan to Yavin), for a total of 96 hours. The Death Star has a class 4 hyperdrive, meaning it takes 384 hours, or 16 days to make the trip from Alderaan to Yavin through hyperspace. The rest of the calculations can be found here.
Now, for The Empire Strikes Back:
- One day on Hoth or on Dagobah is 23 hours long.
- One day on Bespin is 12 hours long.
- I’m going to say the movie begins around noon on Hoth, meaning 11 hours and 30 minutes of the first day pass.
- The probe droid is found probably in the morning, so on that second day, when the Executor begins its transit, I’m going to say that’s six hours of that day.
- The Executor uses a class 1 hyperdrive and makes transit from within the Outer Rim Territories, giving a transit time of 48 hours.
- I would predict the Battle of Hoth is approximately six hours long.
- A T-65B X-wing, a la the one Luke flies, also has a class 1 hyperdrive and also travels within the Outer Rim, giving another transit time of 48 hours.
- Luke probably also arrives on Dagobah around noon, so again, that’s 11 hours and 30 minutes again.
- It takes the Millenium Falcon 8-10 weeks to reach Bespin; we’ll use 9 weeks, or 63 days, for our calculations.
- The Millenium Falcon appears to arrive close to sundown, so we probably see about three hours pass on Bespin.
- Luke makes another trip through hyperspace from Dagobah to Bespin, which is yet another 48 hours.
11.5 hours on day one on Hoth + six hours on day two + 48 hours of the Executor's transit + six hours for the Battle of Hoth + 48 hours of Luke's X-wing's transit from Hoth to Dagobah + 11.5 hours on Luke's first day on Dagobah + 63 days of the Falcon limping on sublight engines to Bespin + 3 hours on Bespin + 48 hours of Luke's X-wing's transit from Dagobah to Bespin = 70 days and 14 hours
Edit: I just realized I fucked up the title, GOD DAMMIT-
