Why do people feel the need to be toxic?

For context, I pretty much exclusively play HvsV.

Every time I get killed, even in 3v1s etc, people start saber spamming on me. This wouldn't annoy me as much if it was a 1v1 and I geniunely did awful.

Every time I lose a game, I get messages trash talking, even when I say gg. Yet whenever I win, nothing to he heard. You can win 10 matches and lose one, and you'll instantly be told you suck for losing.

Has the game always been like this or has it gotten worse recently?
