Is it worth transitioning from Rodman to CADtech?
Company I work for may be looking for a new CADtech in the near future, and I was approached about any interest I may have in the idea. We have a total of 3 survey crews doing mostly do staking and as-built work for heavy civil construction, almost exclusively for a single company which happens to be owned by the same person. We have and some DOT highway work (exclusively done by the third crew). I’ve been Rodman for nearly 3yrs now and I recently started back school part time for some sort of related AAS degree. I know I don’t want to be 60+yrs old and stuck in the field all day every day like our party chiefs, but I don’t want being a CADtech to be the end of the road for me at my current company. I like the people I work for and the projects we work on, so finding a different employer isn’t on the table for me right now.
The only thing holding me back in the field is my party chief, and honestly without me the quality of his work would plummet. I’m not necessarily chomping at the bit for this opportunity, but it’s a conversation. I’m totally open to entertaining.
That being said, what are things I should ask or consider and would this be a logical transition?
