Just re-watched for the 5th time, Nate....
...still sucks. I'll never be satisfied with his "redemption" arc.
I understand the overall point is to show that Ted is Ted and he doesn't personally need an apology, and that's great for Ted, but Nate never actually takes accountability, nor do I feel he ever had a reason to act like that in the first place. Even if Ted had actually "slighted" Nate by not keeping the picture etc(even though not only did he keep it. He kept it in his apartment) what Nate does back to him is way worse. His character growth is so minimal, he is still a spinless twirp by the end of the show, now he is just a spinless twirp that won't take accountability for his actions.
I've seen comment after comment defending him in the past, but after a 5th re-watch of the show, I still don't see it. Outside of that though, Ted Lasso is still hands down one of the best shows I think I've seen in my 35 years on this planet.
Tldr; Nate is a goon, he doesnt truly redeem himself and you can't change my mind.
edit I stand slightly corrected, the best argument I've heard today is(and I'm paraphrasing here) "we don't see what happens off screen after the show ends, but we do see them set Nate up to redeem himself, so maybe I should give him some grace"
That I can agree with, I still don't personally like him, I don't think he was justified to do Ted dirty in the first place, so it's hard for me to see it from his side, took his pain out on the wrong person, but it isn't fair to assume he doesn't continue trying to make things right after the show ends.
