James being autistic makes a lot of sense to me because I´m actually on the spectrum
When I was a teenager around 2011, I was completely obsessed with AVGN. I would rewatch the episodes all the time. I loved his kind of humor, but I also was fascinated by his personality, I felt identified with him, don´t know why. Turns out that when I was in my early 20´s I was diagnosed with asperger and now, many years later, I see this discussion about James being on the spectrum and it makes a lot of sense.
Besides my obsessions (wich included videogames at some point), I´m always been a socially awkward guy, I never had many friends, I never went to parties as a teen, I´ve never had a girlfriend (even tough I´ve always wanted to) and I had a lot of difficulties in school. I remember that I used to read a lot when I was a kid, so my writing was a little better than average, which lead to some adults telling me that I was very good at writing... This made me think that I was gonna become a famous novelist in the future... Well, guess what? I´m now in my 30´s and I haven´t finished any book even tough I´ve tried.
I went to college, but once I finished, ´ve struggled a lot to get a job (even in things unrelated to my career). Being on the damn spectrum means that you just don´t understand how the world works, and that´s something you gotta deal with every single day. It becomes tiring over time and drains a lot of your energy. People don´t quite understand it either, I even knew a girl that wanted to take me to church because she tought my personality was the result of "not being closer to God".
So yeah, autistic people need a lot of help to archieve something in their lives. James is actually lucky that so many people have helped him (parents, friends, wife). I know the memes are funny, the no time, muh kids, climbing the mowden, all that stuff, but I still have a lot of respect for James and I think he is genuinely a good man. I know that we are strange, people love to make fun of us all the time, but that´s okay. It is what it is.
