I’m crazy, bought a first gen w/250K+ miles

Ready to affirm that I’m crazy, dumb or both. But I’m happy. Curious what everyone thinks!

I bought a 2002 SR5 4WD V8 with 258K miles. Paid $6800 for it which I think is a bit high. Couldn’t find anything in that range near in this good condition though, so I went for it. Everything else I looked at were a mess; badly fixed up wrecks, beat up, smokers car, starting to rust out, etc.

I was contemplating buying a newer Tundra (finance) or sell my beloved car (a MK7 GTI) to do so. Couldn’t bare to part with the VW but after 5 years, I was ready to have something with a bit more space and capability.

As for the truck, it drives remarkably well. Engine sounds just like my fathers’ did when new; everything works, only minor superficial rust- frame is rock solid. Previous owner replaced brake master cylinder, tires, kept up with fluid changes, all belts, etc. Major stuff done at 150K to cover struts/shocks (KYB), lower ball joints, sway bark links, stabilizer bar, etc.

Now that the honeymoon phase is wearing out, I can be realistic… timing belt/water pump due in 20K miles; I’ll probably replace the radiator at that point as well. I didn’t realize during test drive/inspection but driver side speaker is blown. Some wear on the steering wheel as well. (Thinking about a leather wrap!)

Just wanted to provide a data point for this market! I can’t believe I paid this much(for the miles) but I was not having any luck before this one showed up!
