Contact lenses burn when I wear them in a different country

I have previously worn my daily contacts in other countries without much problems, but this burning issues started a few months ago.

Last year I travelled to Italy in the spring, and it was fine.

In September, I went to South Asia and I could not wear my contacts without it burning and making my eyes red. I thought maybe the contacts got overheated during travel or something and the solution went bad (not that I've ever heard of this, but it was unbearably hot there), or that I hadn't washed my hands properly, or that I needed to use my eye drops to 'clear' my eyes first... But they still burnt, and when I came back to my home country, contacts from the same box I had with me while travelling were just fine (i.e. the solution didn't go 'bad').

I thought a bit more about it and figured it could have been the water. I had to worn contacts in that country before, but it was years ago, they were monthlies from a different brand. Still, I shrugged it off.

But then I went to Italy again last week and the same thing happened - the burning feeling and my eyes going red. The water was harder there, and the hand soap I used was the basic hotel one...

There's quite a few factors here. But has anyone experienced this exact issue before, and what do you think it's down to? It's just annoying having to carry liquids on European flights as they have a limit for them in the hand luggage, but should I start taking/buying handsoap, eyewash, and/or contact lens solution* when I travel?

*Note that I use dailies so I don't really use the solution, but perhaps I need to start using it to rinse the contacts before I put them on?

My apologies if anything said here is silly. I haven't had many issues with contacts before so I haven't had to know beyond the basics on this topic.
