I should have never quit my job.
I left my job at a start-up 3 months ago to focus on breaking into my first UXR role. The startup role was somewhat related to UXR but just barely.
I graduated in the Spring of 2023 with a bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design. During my time at design school, I discovered I had a passion for UXR. I have 10 years of experience working in the medical field and 2 years working for a start-up.
I’ve applied to over 100 jobs and have not received 1 call back for a UXR role.
My mentor says I have a portfolio that is better than most starting UXRs.
I’ve revised my resume and portfolio multiple times. I network in real life and on LinkedIn.
I can’t tell if I am doing too much or too little. I did not realize that the market was going to be so hard to break into. I’m trying not to give up and lose momentum.
Are there any UXR networking events coming up in Chicago? Can you all let me know how you got your start in UXR?
2/23 Update: I did not think this would get so many eyes. EVERYONE'S feedback has been so valuable I could cry. Your feedback and critiques have made my week and have energized me to work on that resume this weekend.
