Status confusion

I'm gold and I have 363 status credits. Yet I need 172 status credits to maintain gold. I don't understand why? My review date is on 14 November and I will earn an extra 145 credits by then. What is the point of including my old credits if they don't count? Any enlightenment on this issue?
