Yoann Richomme arrival

When I looked at the live tracker yesterday at 20:38, Yoann only had a little over 35nm to go. I understand there’s barely any wind, but did it really take him almost 12 hours to cover the distance and cross the finish line?

From his trace on the map, it almost seemed like he was waiting? I suppose the boats from the canal couldn’t get out until high tide but still… is that what happened?

EDIT: Nevermind, they just explained it on the Live. He was supposed to finish in the middle of the night but he indeed waited and slowed down a lot… Not sure how I feel about that, not a fan, it’s a race after all and you want to do your best time (especially as he had the highest average speed of the entire fleet)… But I suppose get the sentiment, and, gotta keep the sponsors happy.

Anyways, glad he’s made it. I’m a new fan of Yoann after this race, astounding after only two years on an IMOCA, and loved his personality. Will follow him more from now on!
