I lost my promise ring and I’m devastated…

I F 21 and my bf 20 have been together for 2 1/2 years, after the first year we knew we were going to get married. 2 months ago he got me a promise ring and I have worn it every day since but I don’t sleep with it on. Hindsight is 2020…..

Friday/yesterday is the day I realized it was gone. I only ever take this ring off in the bathroom or my bedroom. When I sleep I put it on my night stand, it’s never been an issue before and my cats never messed with it.

I last remember wearing it Wednesday, I know I had it on all day (oh also it can’t fall off because I have a hard enough time getting it off myself). But I can’t remember taking it off at all that night. My best guess is I did what I normally do and put it on my night stand.

Thursday I went to a Christmas party and didn’t have it on. Somehow at that point I didn’t realize it was gone, looking back now I know the reason I didn’t wear it is because I didn’t see it to put it on. Then Friday I looked for it and ofc couldn’t find it.

Me, my dad, and my bf have searched for it. We are in the assumption that the cats played with it. I don’t think they ate it because one they never have eaten things like that and two they haven’t been acting ill.

I just want to vent because I hurt so much. I feel awful and I just want it back…. I want a second chance to take care of it….

My boyfriend isn’t mad at me at all, he told me the ring doesn’t change the promise we made. I know he’s right but I loved showing people. I know it’s a dumb reason to want it back. I just feel horrible and all I can do is look for it. I’m worried I’ll never find it.

All I want for Christmas is my ring back…..

Edit: Thank you all for your kind words/advice/experiences, I came here after I searched my room again. I will come back to this post a reread the comments when I’m feeling overwhelmed. If I find it I’ll post an update if anyone is curious.
