Crampon question along with another winter gear questions

We are planning for our trip in about three weeks now at the end of December. Question 1 - is yaktrack cleats 1st pic in the picture good enough or should I return those and get the microspikes in the 2nd pic?

1. For waterproof pants- we have snow pants that we use for skiing and shoveling snow (we live in Boston area). Should we still get waterproof pants so we don’t overheat?
