Is cannibalism ok in 40k or not
I can’t decide if humans eating humans makes them more likely to fall to chaos or not.
On the one hand:
- on some planets the populace is fed literal corpse starch
- space marines have an organ designed to let them learn about an enemy by eating part of him
So these examples make it seem like eating dead people won’t necessarily make you fall to chaos.
On the other hand:
in one Gaunts Ghosts story, Gaunt shows up at an imperial guard cafeteria and immediately notices something is off/ tainted. Turns out the chefs were selling their rations and cookin up dead dudes instead. Guant summarily executes the evil chefs.
in Grim Repast they discover a cannibal sect that claims to follow “the real emperor” but is clearly heretical
These examples make me think that eating humans will lead you to chaos worship.
I know that GW/BL have been publishing text for so long that some of it is contradictory and they like to handwave canon by saying that all narrators are unreliable. So I don’t expect a definitive answer here, but I’d like people to share canon examples of either argument for discussion purposes.
Thanks
