Lumon is not a physical place

This might have been discussed during Season 1, but I just thought of it now and wanted to share. What if Lumon isn’t a physical place at all? What if it exists entirely in the mind, like the employees are in a comatose state?

For example, what if Mark’s wife didn’t actually die in that accident, but instead is in a coma? That could explain why he’s so motivated to return now that he knows he can see her again. And the new young girl, Ms. Huang, what if she’s also in a coma? She mentioned her last job was as a crossing guard, so what if she was hit by a car?

Some other things that made me consider this theory: • The employees all had to undergo a neurosurgical procedure to participate. • The walls of Lumon are very white and clinical, like a hospital. • And the goats… could they have been used for animal testing before moving on to human trials?

This show is absolutely brilliant and there’s just so much to unpack! Would love to hear everyone’s thoughts on this.
