The Oklahoma Kid (1939)

Tying the interesting plot into the historical context of the Oklahoma land rush was a great idea. Even back in the 30s, Westerns had a lot to say about empire building by crooked politicians, stealing land from the Indians, and individualism— no wonder they became such an important artform of Americana. That lynch mob scene was intense.

Cagney steals the movie with his white hatted charismatic Outlaw, and I can't believe I've never seen one of his movies before. A young Bogart ain't no slouch either as the villain. Those two knew how to captivate in good turn.
