Crossing US border for the first time - tips?

Hi all,

Some friends and I are going to the US for the weekend in a few weeks. It'll be my first time entering the US and my first time driving through a land border (Emerson/Pembina). I've done lots of international travel, just never to the US.

What's the process like? How long can I expect to wait at the border (entering sometime around noon, probably.) Any tips for first time crossing?
