Xennial v Millennial Harry Potter divide
I’m curious as to the experience of those in our 40’s+ in relation to the Harry Potter phenomenon.
Almost every young to mid millennial I know has at least read the books, some have re-read them multiple times and seen the movies and have had ‘discussions’ about houses and patronus (sp?) while most of the elder millennial/xennial/gen x’s I know aren’t phased.
Personally I was aware of the books when they got released but I was too old by that stage to be enticed by a new fantasy world, and didn’t actually understand the hype. That said I had read and re-read the hobbit and lotr in my youth and teens so I did get the general idea.
So I guess my question is, if you’re 40+ and were/are into Harry Potter what was the draw? Did you invest too much money in authentic wands? House slytherin socks? Embarrassing HP themed tattoos? Played irl quidditch?
Ps. Not having a dig, you do you fellow nerds, I’ve still got a library full of fantasy/sci-fi books, and bags full of math rocks
