Would Ableton fit my needs?

Let me preface this question by saying that I have no experience with Ableton or professional audio editing software. I have the opportunity to buy an Ableton subscription, but I'm not sure that it fits my needs. I have no audio mixing background, but I love music and played in marching band throughout college, so I'm confident that I can learn and blunder my way through.

I started developing music for my own dressage (it's a horse sport) freestyles. I'm talking about taking a known song and splicing it together with other songs. I was encouraged to use Audacity, as it's free, but the program isn't great. It's limited in its capabilities and, if you want to make a change to a section down the road, you have to cut and splice the songs again. Very frustrating.

I want the ability to blend songs, change their BPMs without terrible distortion (or at least be able to account for it), and make changes easily later on. My wishlist item is to have the ability to change a song's genre. Obviously, I'll need a lot of experience under my belt before that point; I don't expect a push button product. This feature would make it easier to make songs sound the same as some dressage judges are wildly out of touch with music and need all the help they can get.

Would Ableton be a good fit, or is there another program that might be better?
