Remember: Your Book Experience is YOURS
So I’m noticing a lot of people on this sub talking about how hurt their feelings are when their comfort character/book/couple are trashed by many.
As someone who first read ACOTAR back in 2017 and have read it four times over since then, plus joined this sub and the tumblr equivalent of a community like this, I have a bit of advice:
1: Some people on here are too angry for their own good.
You just need to read their comment and think, “Sending my prayers, because the energy is a little too high for a romantasy sub reddit”.
2: Share your comments and experiences on here, but be ready for people to disagree or downvote you.
It’s not personal. It’s public. If you are not okay with the chances of people writing long paragraphs disagreeing with you, then write it in your diary or share it with your friends. Not trying to be mean, just saving you the pain of thinking everyone will agree with you every time you post.
3: Most important - joining any kind of fandom, in my opinion, somewhat ruins the experience of how I used to enjoy whatever art or media it is we are all fanatics of.
There are those who over analyze and get you way too hype for the next book or movie just to be disappointed by the real product. There are also those who want to point out everything wrong and inconsistent and dumb in something you thought was flawless. Good for study, not for a blissfully unaware fan. So, if you’re here for the community, and find it detracting from your experience as a reader and fan of the story, author, characters, etc., just remember that fandoms are typically toxic — ask anyone who has a fandom (a celebrity, author, etc.) and they will not for a second deny that their fandom can be toxic.
Anyways - sorry for the grammar and writing mistakes, but I’m too lazy to fix them if there are any unless they are glaringly obvious.
⚠️ Love the art you consume! But join fandoms and online communities with caution!!⚠️
