What is an “anti”?
I lean toward the anti side, but I don’t think it’s really as black and white as pro or anti. Meanwhile, I find that a lot of posts on this sub are about taking down only the most extreme anti positions and behaviors (such as harassment). Which you could imagine is very frustrating to me, when I’m not harassing anyone and have been thinking over my positions for a long time.
So what is your perception of an “anti?”
1. An anti is someone who thinks AI is always bad, no matter how it’s used. If this is what you mean by anti, I guess I’m pro. But I wouldn’t find a discussion over this idea worthwhile.
2. An anti is someone who resorts to demonizing, personal attacks, and harassment. Once again, I guess I’m not anti by this definition. I’m not going to defend this type of behavior.
3. An anti is someone who thinks AI is much more likely to hurt humanity than help us. This is where I stand. I think there are good uses for AI, and I use it myself. I’m not afraid of the technology itself, and I don’t hate people for using it. In fact, directing anger toward people who use AI is inconsistent with my position on AI, which includes a recognition of economic pressure that threatens to force creators to adopt AI at an accelerated rate, or else fall behind.
There’s a nuanced, thoughtful discussion to be had about this topic. But if you choose to only see “antis” as reactive, angry, knuckle dragging know-nothings, then there’s a good chance you won’t have it.
