Does the US government not want to tell us what's going on because they literally can't do anything about it?

I think it's pretty obvious that the US military isn't going to be testing top secret tech right over major cities, including the Capitol for the entire world to watch. Wouldn't that defeat the whole purpose of "top secret"? People want to believe that because they're scared of the alternative. I think the reality is that our technology is no match for these things and our military is completely powerless to stop them. That's not something that the public wants to hear. Our military has like a trillion something dollar budget? And they literally cannot do anything about it. Knowing that we can't do anything to stop them and the ensuing mass panic is the real reason the DoD and the Pentagon are lip tight about it.
