T-Mobile WIFI Questions

If my family member has T-Mobile, will American Airlines just ask me for their number and only send a PIN once? Or is it every time I fly? Will that work, or do I have to purchase a WIFI Subscription at $600 per year? What percentage of flights nowadays accept Free T-Mobile WIFI as an option for the WIFI purchase in flight?
