Is Having Kids Becoming Obsolete?
For most of “history”, people had kids because of survival, legacy, tradition. But in today’s world, does reproduction even make sense anymore?
Why Having Kids Feels Outdated:
1. Technology is Replacing the Need for More Humans
AI and automation are taking over jobs, so we don’t need more people to keep society running.
2. The World is Overcrowded & Struggling
Over 8 billion people, climate issues, rising costs—do we really need to add more?
Like Instead of making more people, why not focus on improving life for the ones already here?
3. Life is Full of Suffering
Every new person will experience stress, loss, illness, and eventually death. It’s clearly “unfair” to bring someone into a world where suffering is guaranteed.
4. People’s Priorities Are Changing
Marriage and birth rates are dropping because more people value freedom, careers, and personal growth.
Old reasons for having kids (economic benefits, family pressure) don’t really apply anymore. They’re stuck in the 19th century
What’s the Alternative?
• Technology & AI: Maybe the future isn’t about having kids, but creating something beyond traditional human life.
• Quality Over Quantity: Fewer people = better resources and a higher quality of life for those already here.
What do you think? Are we moving toward a future where people stop having kids, or is reproduction too ingrained in human nature to disappear?
