No beveled spacer for Surefire MD?
Muzzle devices for suppressors.
So I’m writing this about half frustrated, but I needed some surefire muzzle devices timed and installed correctly because if you’re going to do something, do it right the first time.
I took two guns to a gunsmith to have them install the surefire devices. However, the did not use the beveled spacer. Only shims.
One is a BCM 9” .300 BLK and the other is a 16” LWRCI. One has a brake, one has a warcomp.
Is the beveled spacer absolutely necessary? They seem to be timed right, and my suppressor check rod doesn’t seem to come in contact with the muzzle devices (don’t know about the cans).
What problems will I run into if any?
I can post pictures if necessary.
Thank you.
EDIT: Surefire install calls for a “beveled spacer” AND shims. I’m wondering if leaving the beveled spacer out is a bad idea.
EDIT EDIT: Surefire directions state: “BEVELED SPACER WITH CHAMFERED INSIDE DIAMETER MUST ALWAYS BE USED TO ENSURE PROPER ADAPTER ALIGNMENT IF INCLUDED WITH SHIM KIT. ALWAYS USE SPACER WITH CHAMFER FACING BARREL SHOULDER BEFORE INSTALLING OTHER SHIMS, AS REQUIRED, WHEN TIMING A SUPPRESSOR ADAPTER TO A BARREL WITH A 90-DEGREE SHOULDER BEHIND THREADS.”
EDIT EDIT EDIT:
After some soaking, cussing, and blowtorching, I got the old warcomp off, cleaned up the threads, and reinstalled a new warcomp WITH the beveled spacer. The fitment is so much better. I won’t be worrying about a baffle strike anymore.
