Need some insight...couldn't get salesman down $384 dollars to qualify for used EV tax credit.

Any insights, thoughts, next steps is appreciated.

Tried to buy a used 2021 Ford Mach-E tonight. The price was $25,384 and had everything I wanted on it. To qualify for the $4000 EV tax credit I'd need them to sell it for $25,384. I figured that is a non-brainer on their part to go down and get a quick sale.

We did the test drive. It was fine. Already test driven a few of them. I asked him about the ride quality between the Bolt and Mach-E (Chevy dealer) and he spent the rest of the test drive ripping on the Bolt, saying he's sold more Mach-E's recently, and they don't usually have more than 1 or 2 on the lot. It was strange.

So we went inside and he said are we ready to buy today. It was like 7:50pm and they closed at 8pm. I othered for his sake to come right in the morning to finish up. I'd put down a deposit if needed. My partner, which is was sort of more agreeing with, said let's just handle it now and be done with it. He seemed fine to finish it up.

So I just on the price, can we get it down to $25,000 for the tax credit. And if we can, deal. He said the tax credit is for $25,000 out the door, I said naw, its $25,000 sales price. I was 100% sure about that, but said let's check the IRS' website. And of course its $25,000.

He then asks if we are financing, I say no cash.

He said already let me go talk to the sales manager. And I'm paraphrasing but he said something like we are pretty firm on most prices because we have super low prices from the start and it may be hard to negotiate this down. I was like for real?? Alright, let's here what the sales manager has to say.

He says that nope, price is firm and they won't budge. Talked some more. I mentioned how they were going to get more people coming in asking for the same deal, but that didn't matter. So we said alright good night etc., – we are from the midwest so even though I was like WTF we still pretend to be cordial.

Very small slight, but he went to hand me his business card at the end. I was putting my jacket on and he just dropped it on the table and was doing something on his computer and said, "thanks good night."

Next steps to still maybe get this car for $25,000? Call sales manager in the morning? Call sales rep? Any other thoughts? Did not needing to finance make me not as attractive for them since the price is very competitive?
