Baby tooth crown

I have a baby tooth with no adult that cracked, dentist said it’s infected, so I asked for a root canal instead of pulling it as it’s in a visible spot and I can’t afford a veneer anytime soon. Can you root canal and crown a baby tooth with no adult tooth ? He said he would consider the root canal but not a crown.
