Positive parties

When I worked in Sexual Health briefly, I was told about a gay subculture, where affluent older HIV positive men would deliberately and consensually infect young men.

These young men revered the lifestyle of these older men and getting positive was their membership. They would have a minus symbol tattooed on their arm and converted to a plus symbol when they tested positive.

They would then rock up to healthcare and demand their lifelong anti-retrovirals.

Now this was taught to me by a reliable source. But it seems insane and the kind of thing the media would invent. Have you ever heard of this?
