Union vs. Non-Union

Edit: AFM has Global Rule One, not IATSE.

Is working for IATSE or AFM worth it? I’m still studying for my certificate. I know union scale is an advantageous thing but some Unions have Global Rule One, meaning you can only work union gigs. That might limit my job opportunities. There is also late fees, I found this in the handbook for my local IATSE chapter, of course I show up 30 minutes early everywhere. And then there are initiation fees and dues. Do those outweigh union scale?
