Vocal effects (autotune, pitch shifting, echo, distortion, etc) on a Condenser Mic in an Untreated Room.
Trying to get my budget home studio set up. Tested out some mics today and I feel like I need a condenser instead of a dynamic. I can only really sing good in a super-soft Billy Corgan-esque voice and the Shure 57 wasn’t picking it up.
But I also wanna do some weird experimental vocals that will have all sorts of weird effects: creative auto tune stuff, trippy echos/delays, pitch shifts, etc.
I noticed in Guitar Center when I tested the budget condenser (AKG p220) that it picked up a lot of room noise. I’m going to try to put some blankets up and make a DYI booth or something, but the room will DEFINITELY not be studio quality.
!!!TLDR: So here is my question can I use all of these cool effects and vocal processing when there is all this room space included with my vocals? Will pitch shifts, vox effects, crazy delays… is this going to sound horrible with the room in the mix??
I don’t mind if it sounds kind of lofi, kind of prefer that tbh, but if it’s too distracting I might have to do a 57 instead.
