Favorite colourful equalisers, software only? Not including pre amps.
Hello. What's your opinion, your favourite software equalisers that add noticeable harmonic colouration? I'm looking for more to add to my tools. I have quite a few digital transparent ones and some coulorful ones too. I'm wondering if there's any more that people are using that I either haven't heard of it brushed off. I have most of the pre amp eqs so I'm not interested in adding more at this moment.
I know you can use clean eq, followed by saturation but for some of these eqs, the non linear nature of the filters, combined with the saturation increasing and decreasing, it's quick, simple and the added harmonics can be very nice sounding overall.
I actually quite like fab filters volcano more than Saturn for this reason, the movement of harmonics when filters are adjusted, I find really interesting. I wouldn't class it as a colourful eq but it's filters can be used that way.
My favourites so far are..
Softube's curve bender. Could be the shape of the curves too but this is amazing in the low mids and sibilance area.
Uad's massive passive. Quite hi fi, despite it's tube nature. Very nice bottom end. Curves are very interactive which takes time to learn. Every move effects previous moves.
Brainworx's Soma. A more predictable massive passive. It has much less interactivity between bands but adds tons of harmonics.
Honerable mentions are brainworx's PQ but its quite transparent. It can be driven though.
