Echolalic child
My almost 3 year old daughter has echolalia, or to be more specific the speech and language therapist said she had GLP.
I’m in the UK and getting therapy and an autism test is taking a long time so I don’t have many people to ask questions to.
She repeats a lot. For example, if I say “are you hungry?”, she says “are you hungry?” or if I ask “are you ok?” She will say “are you ok?”. But it’s not that black and white which is why I wanted to share her situation and maybe someone has advice or experiences something similar and can give me reassurance.
She loves the word “no” and knows exactly how to use it. If I ask her “do you want some soup” and she doesn’t want it, she will say “no”. If I ask her the same question but she does want it she will repeat the question. Also if I ask her “what is this” and point at something she knows the answer to, she will answer correctly. Or if I ask something like “what colour is the cat?” and point to the cat, she will answer with the correct colour.
Most of the day she is repeating things she has heard from us or the TV. She plays for ages by herself just chatting away bless her. But sometimes she does communicate “typically” during the day.
Anyway I have rambled enough, I just wanted to vent and to hopefully get reassurance that this won’t last forever. I really want to be able to have a conversation with her, she’s my best friend. But I also don’t want to make her feel as though what she is doing is wrong. I don’t want her to have to mask herself. But on the other hand I want her to be on the right developmental path.
