Who's the most consistently good player in MLB history?
The longer I look at Derek Jeter's stats the more interesting I find him as a player. I'm not making an argument for him being the greatest I'm not here to say that he's overrated. What I am here to say is he might be one of the most consistent players in MLB history. 71.3 WAR over the course of his 20 year career. What I find most impressive about his WAR is the consistency in which he accumulated it. With a 3.5 WAR season average but only 6 seasons with a WAR of 5 or higher. He basically never had a bad season average. Yet he never won an MVP and only placed top 3 three times. I just don't see this as the typical Hall of Fame career. For example when you compare him to Griffey who does beat his career war total by over 10 points He was only able to accomplish that by having outlier seasons early in his career where he had 6+ WAR 6 times and led the league in war in three separate seasons something Jeter only did in one season. Besides Hank Aaron who I think is the best example of consistency throughout a Hall of Fame career I can't think of any other players that played to a high level with the level of consistency that Jeter had. So rather than just googling a bunch of names and staring at stat sheets all night. Who are some of your favorite examples of consistency throughout an entire career?
Mods deleted the last post for the title being too vague in its description. I hope this is better title and can be left up.
