Yes, lets build more housing in areas with evacuation problems in wildfire zones
Moraga Town council yesterday approved a 66-unit apartment complex despite neighboring Orinda City having to halt similar projects due to evacuation safety issues after residents had to sue.
For those who don't know Moraga is a Bay Area town of over 11k people surrounded by grassy hills and forests with limited roads out of town if there is a major, wind swept wildfire.
See for yourselves:
2:02 is when residents start raising concerns: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ux4sAmoFaMs&t=7345s 4:32 is around where the town makes decision.
Town council is completely tone deaf to reality. Let this be a "I told you so" post when there's a Paradise/Palisades-like event happens in Moraga.
I'd blame the California Housing Mandate on this, but the Moraga Town Council was given enough ammunition from constituents via their appeal to at least pause, access how LA fires played out, and resume if safe to build more.
