Question on Deterring House Sparrows

I’m new to the scene of bird feeding and have had my feeder up for about a week now (it’s a small tube feeder). I’ve been using a generic bird seed mix I got from the store (Black Oil Sunflower Seeds, Corn, Canary Seeds, Canola Seed, Oats, Red Milo, White Millet). Over the past week the only birds I’ve seen at my feeder have been House Sparrows, and they’ve really grown in numbers. My question is: is having an abundance of House Sparrows a bad thing? Are they deterring other birds or is it more of a way of attracting other birds (they see all the sparrows and know there’s food)? If they’re deterring, how do I deter the house sparrows so I can have other birds come and feed? Thanks for your help!
