Has anyone ever been a Sleep Technologist?
I'm 31 years old, stuck in the construction field and I just want out, can't take it anymore.
I've done a lot of research and this seems like a very interesting job. Lets me relocate somewhere else and try something new, plus I've always liked the idea of helping people. Ideally, this would be even better if I could work with kids, but no matter the same.
I noticed online that you can complete a certificate online in 8 months to become a Sleep Tech, but what I'm really looking for is the best possible resource to start this career. Any suggestions on certificates? Is an Associates Degree really required to start? I heard you can get on the job training also, but I'd rather be ahead of the curve, if possible (especially if there's pay discrepancies).
I have also seen the median wage for this position and it looks decent. I make $24/hr now so ideally I'd like to be more than that especially if I have to relocate to an expensive area.
What I'm wondering also if there is room to branch out. Lets say I don't want to do this forever, what other path can I take while working this job? CT Scans? Respiratory Therapist, maybe? I'd want to reach higher and be multi-faceted but also seek more pay. Not interested in blood or needle related healthcare jobs.
Thanks!
