Are internships still viable after graduation? Do many companies dismiss you for not being college age anymore? General career search advice is also welcome.
Hello, a little backstory for me (Or you can skip this paragraph), I'm a 26 year old marketing graduate from a local university. I tried my hand in door to door insurance sales, and I truly enjoyed it minus how much I was away from home. It made good money but I had to stop because I hit a deer and within the month had a new car that got stuck in the mud and ran me some serious dollars, so I had to stop going out of town and staying in hotels to sell insurance. The whole situation lasted 2 months and left me financially drained. I've tried working closer to home, and have taken up a job as a restaurant server again. There isn't much available aside from part time jobs at general stores or factory work for 23 an hour.
I'm currently looking at jobs out of town in my state's capital, and wondering if internships would be viable for someone like me or if I'm likely to be dismissed for my age/education level. I'm looking at positions through sites like LinkedIn, indeed, my colleges old handshake account as well. Is there any way that I can stand out despite not being college aged or a student anymore?
I've spent a great deal of time looking for entry level work and many times I don't even get a call back. I've reworked my resumes a few times and had them reviewed, many people who do give me interviews in the past have commented they love my resume contents/design work. I've tried applying cover letters more often whenever possible. I will say one of the greatest strengths i developed with insurance was my ability to talk with and get to know people better to the point I could be welcomed inside their homes off the door step with no indication of my arrival for hours at a time, despite being so introverted.
I do apologize if this is a bit scattered and not as coherent as it could otherwise be, but I greatly appreciate advice that could be offered at this time. Thank you.
