C4000XG & C3000Z router issues (Centurylink Fiber)
Just posting for anyone encountering these issues. I did a lot of research and troubleshooting to come to these conclusions:
The C4000XG for whatever reason would connect to my 2013 Macbook Pro and would provide internet for a moment, but then would block it. I tried factory resets of the router, I recreated my Wi-Fi Network Service on my Mac, wiped Network Settings on my Mac, and so much more. After a lot of research, I saw quite a bit that the firmware of it is still buggy. So I called CenturyLink and had them send me the previous model, the C3000Z. Which I just installed and began using and my Macbook is working just fine with the C3000Z. Still not 100% sure if there are new settings on the C4000XG that need to be tweaked for everything to work properly or if the firmware is just plain buggy.
On the C3000Z, when trying to change the 5GHz SSID name under https://192.168.0.1 > Wireless Setup > 5 GHz > Basic Settings, it continually changed the SSID of the 2.4 GHz instead. The workaround is to change the SSID name via Wireless Setup > SSID Setup instead of Basic Settings.
Edit: I was wrong, the above did not set the SSID for the 5GHz. I still can't get the 5GHz SSID to change from stock. Looks like if I want to use my own SSID I'll have to buy my own router 🤦🏼♂️
