Organic Chemistry PhD Transitioning to Patent Law - AMA
Not sure how much interest there will be in this topic, but thought I'd put it out there as someone who sorely needed the advice a few months ago (and similar posts I've found are 5+ years old at this point).
A little about me: I recently finished my PhD in organic chemistry at a well-known US school (for privacy reasons, I won't say exactly where). I interviewed for both biotech/pharma and patent law as I was wrapping up. I chose to go to a law firm after considering salary/advancement opportunities and my own career goals/interests - I enjoy reading and writing, and I didn't see myself staying at the bench for another 10-15 years.
I've not yet started the new job, so I can't speak to what the day-to-day is like, but I'm happy to answer any questions about the search, interview, and/or PhD process. AMA! I will do my best to reply as quickly as possible. My DMs are also open for more personal questions.
