Why do some people believe that Miguel is the underdog?

I can see that he was an underdog for the first few episodes in season one. But when he defeated Kyler that took him out of the underdog category in my opinion. I can see him again becoming an underdog in season three when he had to learn to walk again. That ended again when he defeated Kyler. He hasn't been one since that I can tell. Even when he was an underdog, he still had his family and friends in his corner. Plus he had Johnny who is always prioritizing him over his actual son. So, I'm curious as to what makes him an underdog.
